Latest Obsession: Natural Soap

When I learned the importance of natural ingredients to my dog’s diet I started searching out natural products and pet stores that had better products for my dog. It was only a matter of time before I realized I was getting better products for my dog than I was for myself. I had spent a lot of time looking up how to relieve my dog’s dry itchy skin and hadn’t bothered to do much about mine. I guess you could say that in learning how to take better care of my dog, I learned how to take better care of myself. I went into the Lush website and browsed through their products, particularly paying close attention to the reviews.

Three tips when deciding what to buy

  • Sort by popularity/best selling – There’s usually a reason why some things sell better than others.
  • Read the negative and one star reviews – While some of the negative reviews might just be complaints, often there are some valuable information. Value the results of trial and error by other people! Different people have different preferences or conditions so take this into consideration.
  • Don’t be afraid to get a non-best seller – It’s good to go through different people’s experience and opinions but make sure that in the end you’re getting what you want.

This is how the soap came home. I also bought their soap tin case which has proven useful to hold my soap. The nice thing about Lush bar soap is that for their body soap and their facial soap you can ask them to cut a certain amount for you. This means you can match it to your budget, or you can get them to cut a certain size. After they had cut my Fresh Farmacy Face Soap, I realised it would be a good idea to ask them to cut my body soap into a shape that fit my tin case. So as you can see, the Sultana soap is in a square shape. The thickness is also the perfect size to fit in the tin and put the lid on.

Fresh Farmacy Face
This soap seems to be really gentle on the face. The thing I noticed after I started using this soap is that my cheeks are no longer painfully dry. I have combination skin where my T zone is oily but my cheeks had been severely dry. I haven’t particularly felt that my face was oily at the end of the day and my cheeks don’t feel chapped. I wouldn’t say that this soap is very soapy, but it does come off the bar quite easily. Once wet all I have to do is rub it once across my palm and there is a good amount of soap on my hand to gently wash my face. It’s been a month and it still hasn’t gotten much smaller than when I bought it.

Sultana
When I first saw the Sultana in store I thought it was the prettiest soap they had. It just looked so luxurious and the scent was subtle but nice. It was also the one with many reviews saying that it was gentle to the skin. After using it for a month I have noticed that my legs have not been as dry or itchy even when I don’t have time to use body lotion during busy mornings. I’m not quite hooked to this soap though, and will probably try a different soap when I’m finished with it. The first day I used it, the scent was so strong it overpowered my bathroom and lingered for several hours. It wasn’t bad after a couple uses but the first day almost gave me a headache.  I don’t think it’s just that I’ve gotten used to the scent. It’s been very subtle and hasn’t lingered since the first few times. This soap hardly makes any soap suds but rather feels like a milky lotion gliding over your body. It’s been a month and it’s gotten noticeably smaller. I think I’ve used about 2/3 of the bar using it daily in the shower.
