Cleansing Routine: Eye Makeup Removers

Cleansing is definitely not the most glamorous part of a makeup routine, but it’s probably the most important! I like to start off my cleansing routine by removing eye makeup. I like to begin with a more affordable eye makeup remover and then pull out the big guns for heavier eye makeup. The reason for this is because regardless of which remover I use, I go through more than one cotton round of product when removing my eye makeup. So it’s economical to start with something inexpensive when doing an initial cleanse!

#. The Affordable
The one on the left is the Herb Day Lip & Eye Remover in the sensitive formula by a Korean beauty brand called The Face Shop. It costs 7,000 won ($6) but the trick is to get them during a 1+1 deal. Most of the low-end Korean beauty brands do sales on a regular basis, so I rarely buy things from Korean road shops at full price. The Innisfree Apple Juicy Lip & Eye Remover is also a Korean low-end beauty brand, but I’m not in love with this particular eye makeup remover.

#. The Big Guns
If the mascara is being stubborn, I whip out my Lancome Bi-Facil Double Action Eye Makeup Remover. I soak the end of a cotton swab and gently twirl it into the root of my lashes. This keeps my eyelids from getting irritated and gets out any eyeliner or mascara near the lash line. I’ve just finished up the full sized bottle and started using the sample size I got for free in a gift bag. Lancome gift bags in North America are a good deal as they include generous sample sizes. This sample is a 50ml which is nearly half the regular 125ml.

I’ve not yet had a chance to try the Bobbi Brown, Maybelline, or Clio cleansers. The Maybelline one actually came with their Instant Age Rewind Concealer and I was a little puzzled as to why they paired the sample with the concealer. I’m looking forward to trying the Clio eye makeup cleanser as I love their brow tattoo. Maybe it will make a good replacement for the Innisfree one.

*Edit: Last night I tried the Bobbi Brown cleanser on one eye and the Lancome on the other. They were both gentle, but the Lancome was more thorough in terms of removing mascara than the Bobbi Brown. I had to spend more time with the Bobbi Brown to get through the three coats of mascara I had on. Since the Lancome is also a little cheaper, I think I’ll be sticking with Lancome.
