Eye Primer – Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Vs. Stila Prime Pot

If your eyeliner or eyeshadow is always smudging on you, look no further. I had been a victim of panda eyes for nearly ten years before I discovered the magic of eye primers. Because Urban Decay hadn’t come in to Korea until September last year, I decided to try the Stila prime pot. I used it for over a year before switching over to the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion so I’ll be able to give you a comparative review.

The Stila Prime Pot comes in a jar that’s slightly larger than the MAC or Bobbi Brown gel liner pots (which by the way is a horrible idea for anyone with oily eyelids). It has a rather not-so-creamy creamy consistency with a good amount that will last you a long time. However, it does have a sort of peachy-taffy color that makes it nearly impossible to use lighter eyeshadows. They only come in two different colors and the other option was much too dark for my skin. I would say that the terrible color choices are the ultimate downfall of Stila Prime Pot, only it gets worse.

Because of its thick consistency it clumps up and makes it very difficult to spread evenly. Considering the fact that you don’t want to be rubbing the delicate skin around your eyes, this makes the formula less than ideal. Good luck if you get it in your eyelashes. Even though I only used the Stila Prime Pot after washing my hands, I still felt a bit uncertain using my fingers for something that was supposed to go on my eye. So it’s safe to say that I only put up with the Stila Prime Pot because it did help keep my eyeliner from smudging. However, it didn’t do so well with darker eyeshadows and made my eye area sticky and left a ruddy color.

So naturally, I was ecstatic when Urban Decay launched in Korea because I had heard nothing but praises for the Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It comes in a tube with a lid that always reminds me of Aladdin. I decided to keep the little box case it came in to use as a dock for my holy grail eye primer.

The tube has a small tip that makes it easy to squeeze out a small amount. This tiny amount is enough to use on both eyes, so don’t be fooled by the small-sized tube. It feels so much more sanitary than having to dig my finger into a pot.

It does initially have a sort of oily feeling when you’re applying it to your eyelid, but it’s nothing to worry about as it dries quickly. It does have a slightly gritty consistency, but it blends easily with no irritation to the eye due to its creamy texture.

As you can see, compared to the Stila Prime Pot on the left finger that goes on thick and clumpy, the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion goes on thin and even. You can barely notice the color which is perfect for applying lighter eyeshadows.
