2017 January Favorites

First favorites post of this year! I’ve come to really love doing these favorite posts, because it let’s me look back at everything I’ve loved and been thankful for. I can’t believe it’s been over 6 months since I started doing these favorites posts. Let’s hope I keep going strong and hit a year-long milestone!

#. Dried flowers: This month I moved my succulents to a different part of my apartment so that they could get some more sunlight during the day. With everything going on, I hadn’t had the chance to arrange my dried flowers so I did that last month during the holidays. I basically got rid of all the dried leaves on the stems because they were looking a bit messy and made it harder to arrange the flowers in a pretty bunch. I’m really happy with the way they turned out and love having this little flower nook next to my computer.

#. Klimt Inside Exhibit: I love going to art exhibits whether it be alone or with company, but some exhibits are more fun to enjoy with friends! The Klimt Inside exhibit was actually a digital art exhibit where the artists had reinterpreted the works of Gustav Klimt. You’re probably familiar with Klimt’s famous golden painting called The Kiss! I hadn’t seen much of his other works before though, so it was interesting to see all the different subjects he had  painted choreographed to digital sound. I love how bold and striking they made his quote by making it a neon sign on the wall. It really packs quite the statement doesn’t it?

#. Italics: My calligraphy journey continues and this month I’ve been focusing on my italics. I started by practicing each individual letter before moving on to words, and carefully venturing into sentences! This quote was by Martin Luther King Jr, and has really rung true for me in the past few weeks.

#. Kip: I love my dog to pieces! He is literally the cutest dog in the whole world and I can’t believe he’s already 6 years old as of January 11th. He’s been extra cuddly lately as the weather has been quite cold here in Korea. For his birthday I got him a deers hoof chew and he was jumping head over heels with it. I’ve tried dental treats, bully sticks, and deer antlers but I don’t think anything has been as good as the deer hoof. Kip literally spent hours gnawing on the thing and it has done wonders for his teeth!

#. Milk Tea & Journaling: My drink of choice this month has been milk tea, and my favorite was this milk tea served in a bottle! It’s also been a month of reflection and journaling with my trusty traveler’s notebook. I’ve tried notebooks by Moleskin and Leuchtturm, but I can honestly say that I feel much more at home with the Traveler’s Notebook. It’s much more economical in the long run because you’re not constantly paying for a leather cover. Plus, I like having different notebooks for different topics, so it’s nice that I can carry a collection of notebooks rather than having to fit everything in one. I still use my gratitude journal and keep it as the first notebook inside my Traveler’s Notebook.

#. Ink Stone & Ink Stick: I’m super excited to be attending another calligraphy workshop come spring, and one of the materials I need to take is an ink stick. I haven’t used an ink stone and ink stick since middle school, so it was fun trying them out again! At first I dug out my grandfather’s ink stone but it was much too big and heavy to carry around. So I ordered this small round ink stone online, and I’m pretty happy with it! It’s fun grinding the ink stick on the ink stone to make ink, and there’s something rather calming and meditative about it.
